Freehold Township is a municipality located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The township is situated in the Raritan valley region. It is a bedroom area for New York City commuters and is also a regional commercial hub for Central New Jersey. Freehold Township was formed for the first time in October 1693. The New Jersey Legislature created it as a township on February 21st, 1798. Freehold Township was formed from portions of Freehold Township on October 31, 1693. It was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 21, 1798. The United States Census Bureau reported that the total area of the township was 38.88 sq. miles, with 38.65 sq. miles of land and 0.23 km2 of water.
