Marlboro Township is a Township located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area. The 2010 United States Census showed that the township had 40,191 residents. Marlboro Township was created by the New Jersey Legislature from parts of Freehold Township on February 17, 1848. According to the United States Census Bureau, the total area of the township was 30.45 sq. miles, with 30.34 sq. miles of land and 0.11 sq. miles of water. The New Jersey Geological Survey map indicates that the land is mainly composed of cretaceous soil, which is sand, silt, and clay. Morganville and Robertsville, are two other census-designated communities and unincorporated communities that are located in Marlboro Township. The township borders Aberdeen Township; Colts Neck Township; Freehold Township; Holmdel Township; Manalapan Township; Matawan in Monmouth County; Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County.
Marlboro offers a township-sponsored recreation program. There are leagues for active soccer and basketball for boys and girls, as well as Little League baseball and softball, Pop Warner football/cheerleading, and an expanding amateur wrestling program. The Township hosts free concerts in the summer by well-known musicians. Recent performers include Jay and The Americans, Bill Haley’s Comets, and Lesley Gore. Marlboro began hosting monthly indoor concerts in 2007 at its recreation center. These concerts feature both local and upcoming talent. Marlboro’s Bedlight For Blue Eyes has been featured by artists as well as Sound The Alarm. Marlboro also hosts the Marlboro Players, which is a private theater group that offers open auditions for supporting roles. The group was founded in 1975 and presented their first performance, Do Not Drink the Water in the spring of that year. Two segments of the Henry Hudson Trail are ideal for bicyclists and walkers. Marlboro has an off-leash dog park located at the township municipal complex off Wyncrest Road, located on Recreation Way.
The township tried to protect the F&F properties of Stattel’s Farm, McCarron Farm, and Golden Dale Farm from development. These two farms are now working farms. If you are interested in knitting, you can visit “Knits Fabulous!” in Marlboro. Flexible schedules are available for both knitting and crochet classes so you can pick the hours that suit you best. Open Knitting and Cross-Stitch sessions are a great way to meet fellow knitters and to share your projects with friends during store hours. It’s also free! If you’re looking for a place to eat in, you can visit the famous Zinburger Wine and Burger Bar. The restaurant offers gourmet burgers made from fresh, high-quality ingredients. A full bar is available at the restaurant, offering a variety of beer choices and bottles of wine. You can either choose from the pre-made menu or make your own burger. For an additional $5, you can have your burger made with Kobe beef. A special “burger of the week” is also available on the menu.
