Ensuring the Best Education Possible for Your Child

Children with disabilities are entitled to a free public education that meets their unique educational needs. Our legal team believes that every child deserves the right to an equal and quality education that prepares them for their unique needs as an adult, whether they include higher education, employment or independent living. We can help you navigate the complex network of federal, state and local laws governing special education. We are here to assist you with the regulations and policies of your school district. Together we can develop and implement the best education plan for your child.

How We Can Help

We provide assistance at every step of your child’s journey through the school district, from age 3 through age 21. We will be your partner in working with your school’s child study team whether your child already has an IEP (Individualized education Plan) or 504 Plan, or you believe he is eligible for one. Some of the services we provide include:

  • Requesting evaluations and eligibility meetings to determine if your child qualifies for special education services
  • Reviewing and drafting IEPs and 504 Plans
  • Attending IEP meetings
  • Reviewing evaluations and determinations before you sign them
  • Providing assistance in resolving disputes with your school district
  • Preparing complaints to file with the appropriate governmental agency
  • Representing you in court

Special Education Law

This complex and sometimes confusing area of the law is governed by the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) as well as ever changing case law. Under these laws, children with disabilities are guaranteed the following basic rights:

  • Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
  • Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
  • Supplementary Aids and Services
  • Accommodations and Modifications
  • Annual Assessments

Your child’s IEP or 504 Plan is the roadmap to his or her education. If you have concerns that this plan is not appropriate or is not being followed, contact us to discuss your options.
